Just like its siblings, the M3 and M4, the G87 M2 takes a significant step forward in performance and capabilities compared to its predecessor. It’s no surprise, really, since this model borrows generously from the parts catalog of its older relatives, which means many components are interchangeable among the trio. A couple of inlet pipe bends may keep the exhaust from being fully interchangeable, but the M2 shares much of its design with the G8x M3/M4 system. This shared foundation allowed us to apply the extensive drone abatement technology developed for those platforms to the G87, speeding up the research and development process. The result? A new member of the G8x valved axle-back exhaust family that offers a deeper, more resonant tone and an extra boost in sound compared to the stock system.
To create the perfect sound volume and tone for the G87 M2, we enlarged the tubing to 76mm (up from the stock 70mm). This change promotes freer flow and reduces backpressure throughout the entire system. As the exhaust nears the rear of the vehicle, multiple pathways open up, with the factory exhaust valves determining which path the gases take. When the valves are closed, the flow is directed into the Dinan muffler, utilizing absorption and reactive technologies, and exiting through the two inner tips. This design keeps noise levels down during low-speed driving while delivering a deeper, more pleasant note. But when the valves open under high-load conditions, the majority of the gases bypass the muffler entirely, creating a near straight pipe design that maximizes your auditory enjoyment. It’s a perfect balance of civility and spirited aggression, tailored to meet the demands of any situation. Dinan has crafted this system with the discerning enthusiast in mind, ensuring it meets the high standards expected from these performance models.
Visually, the Dinan G87 M2 exhaust is a work of art, crafted entirely from T304 stainless steel and TIG welded for a stunning appearance. The entire system is brush-finished to ensure it looks immaculate right out of the box. Our attention to detail extends beyond the parts you can’t see once the exhaust is installed; it also shines through in the exhaust tips. The Dinan exhaust features impressive, quad 4.5-inch (114mm) clamp-on, double-walled, polished stainless steel tips that are laser engraved with the Dinan logo. While they may seem large on paper, these tips fit perfectly and fill the factory cutouts, completing an OEM+ look with a touch of attitude.
