The factory BPV has a couple of notable drawbacks in its design and function. For starters, tuned engines running high boost generate significant heat in the charge air. Since the BPV is located right on the compressor, it’s exposed to the hottest part of the intake charge, which can lead to the diaphragm rupturing. If this happens and goes unnoticed, it can damage the turbo as the ECU attempts to compensate for lost boost pressure.
Secondly, the factory BPV isn’t designed for optimal throttle response. Its soft spring and solenoid valve mean it can only operate in two states: fully open or fully shut.
