If you've got a high-powered modified engine, you might notice that it tends to produce a fair amount of blow-by oil and gases. A regular small catch can just won't cut it in these situations. That's where the Radium Engineering AOS (Air Oil Separator) kit steps in. This kit does a fantastic job of keeping blow-by oil and other contaminants out of your air intake and intercooler (if you have one). The best part? Unlike standard catch cans, the AOS system returns the collected oil straight back to the oil pan, meaning no frequent servicing is needed!
Without a well-designed AOS, you might encounter water condensation that could end up contaminating your engine oil. The Radium Engineering AOS features a specially designed heating chamber that keeps the system warm and prevents condensation. Since water is denser than oil, there's an integrated water trap around the bottom perimeter to catch any condensation before it can make its way into the oil pan.
For the AOS crankcase plumbing, the valve cover vent(s) connect to the top inlet. Here, a stainless steel condensing material does the hard work of separating oil from gases. The filtered liquid oil collects at the bottom of the AOS and is drawn back into the oil pan. Meanwhile, the clean air from the crankcase can either vent to the atmosphere (VTA) or be recirculated back into the turbo air inlet pipe.
When everything is functioning properly, the fluid level inside the AOS will be empty after sitting. If you suspect a return obstruction, simply unscrew the anodized billet aluminum dipstick for a quick check. Plus, the entire unit can be easily disassembled into three large pieces for servicing when needed.
